Moon Magick is part of a larger exploration of fluidity in natural objects and explores the Moon as a symbol of love. Painting her over and over, in her fullest state was an act of meditation, a sort of abstract mandala that helped me stay present while I built new, spiritually charged self-care rituals that flow with the phases of the Moon.
Each painting is made with acrylic paint and resin on wood with some pieces featuring metallic embellishments in the stars. Painted in multiple layers, each painting in this series consists of layering a background, star splatters, customized constellations, and the Moon. Every layer is coated with resin to build depth and accentuate the textures achieved when working with acrylic paint.
This series encourages viewers to see the Moon from a different perspective. Painted from alternative perspectives reflects a kind of fluid, ecstasy one often feels in love. Also, while most of the stars in each painting are made using a splatter technique, some paintings have customized constellations mixed into the layers. These custom constellations play with the idea of wishing on a star, encouraging viewers to release their own desires and find trust in the universe.
